Data engineer or Databricks engineer: which do we need?
Data engineers build and run pipelines across tools such as Azure Data Factory, Snowflake and Spark. A Databricks engineer goes deeper on the Databricks platform itself: Unity Catalog governance, Asset Bundles for deployment and Genie for business users. If your platform is built on Databricks, hire for that depth.
Do you recruit for greenfield data teams?
Yes. For a new team we help decide the order of hires, usually a lead data engineer first, then data engineers, and a Databricks engineer if the platform runs on Databricks.
